Wayne State University partners with various community clinics and outreach programs to provide students with additional opportunities for clinical experiences. These off-campus sites allow students to interact with diverse patient populations and gain exposure to different oral health conditions and treatment needs. Engaging in community-based dental hygiene care enhances students’ cultural competence and expands their understanding of the oral health disparities that exist in underserved communities.
Internship Placements
As part of the program, students may have the opportunity to complete internships at dental practices, hospitals, or other healthcare facilities. These internships provide students with real-world experience in dental hygiene practice settings outside of the university. Working alongside experienced dental professionals, students gain insights into the day-to-day operations of a dental practice, develop professional networks, and further refine their clinical skills.
