Coursework
Students in the Communication Disorders program take a variety of courses that cover topics such as language development, speech sound disorders, fluency disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders. These courses provide students with a solid foundation in the field and prepare them for clinical practice.
Clinical Practicum
The program includes clinical practicum experiences where students work directly with clients under the supervision of licensed speech-language pathologists. These practicum experiences allow students to apply their knowledge and skills in real clinical settings, working with individuals with communication disorders. Students gain hands-on experience in assessment, intervention, and counseling.
Path to Licensure
Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for licensure as speech-language pathologists. Licensure requirements may vary by state, but typically include completion of a master’s degree, supervised clinical experience, and passing a national examination. Southern CT State University’s program prepares students to meet these requirements and embark on a fulfilling career in speech-language pathology.
